One of two April book events scheduled at this time will be Friday, April 3rd in Arcadia, Louisiana, at the public library. Aunt Sue and I will be there from 2-4 pm and look forward to meeting folks in that north Louisiana town. It was in this area of Louisiana where Bonnie and Clyde met their end.
On April 15th, I will speak to the Camden Lions Club at noon at the Country Club here in town. Oh, yes and don't forget to pay your taxes by that date!
After a lot of book events this spring, I am going to take a rest and go with my husband Gil to the Christian Motorcycle State Rally and Seasons of Refreshing at Marble Falls, Arkansas on April 16-18th. We both need a get-away.
Gil will be returning to work April 6th after being off 10 weeks for radiation treatments. He is doing fine and looks forward to going back to work prior to his retirement in May. We have lots to do before out big trip to Alaska. Watch this blog for pictures from us along the way.
Mama's new CD of 20 of her songs will be out soon. Terry Leonard, pianist at Hillside Baptist Church, Camden, AR, plays them beautifully - no words on the CD, just lovely piano music. We plan to publish a song book to go along with the CD. I will let you know when it is ready for distribution.

I made my way to Bernice, La. on March 26th and met mama and Aunt Sue there to join the nice people at the Business Club Luncheon. We had a delicious catered lunch and then we were asked to talk about our book. I read from several chapters and we had a short discussion on how people during the Great Depression had to make do with what they had. We all wondered how folks might make do if we have another depression. It was nice meeting some of the business people there. We had a book signing afterwards and sold a number of books and audio versions. Thanks Ms. Lann for inviting us, and thanks to the Banner Newspaper for the lovely article they published telling the community of our visit. The local drug store has a number of books and audio versions that can be purchased, so go by to get one if you did not make it to the meeting. You have a nice little town there in Bernice and maybe we will have a chance to visit again.

Three More March Events
On Sunday morning, March 22nd, Linda and her mother attended Sunday School and church at Hillside Baptist in Camden, AR. This picture of Lillian and Terry at the piano may be the one used for the front cover of the upcoming CD of Lillian's songs. This afternoon Lillian and Linda were guest speakers at the Ouachita-Calhoun Counties Genealogical Society at the Camden Public Library.
On Saturday, the 21st, Linda and Lillian were joined by Sue Metcalf, Lillian's younger sister, at the Lincoln Parish Library in Ruston for another book review and signing. This was very successful and everyone had a great time. Several of Sue's friends from her church and community attended this event.
On Friday, March 20th, Lillian accompanied Terry Leonard into the sound studio near Pine Bluff, AR, to listen to the completion of him recording 20 of her songs for a CD that will be released shortly. Terry plays the music only on the CD, but when marketed it will be accompanied by a booklet of the sheet music for all the songs.
Linda and Lillian attended a book review/signing in Crossett, AR on March 19th. The crowd was rather small, but very special. Two of Linda's classmates from Bastrop High came to see her and her mother. Sharon and Mary were also in Linda's first grade class at Southside Elementary in 1953 (oops, our age is showing). It was wonderful to see them. The library personnel encouraged us to come back to Crossett in the fall for a local festival in October.

March 14th Events in Louisiana
It was damp and cool and we did not have a lot of people come out to our book signings, but we had a good time visiting with those who did.
The ladies at Blessings Book Store made us feel right at home with a cup of tea in the Appletree Restaurant. The people who came to meet us were so nice and we enjoyed talking with them. One man was 92 years old and said he knew all about sharecropping. A couple from Columbia came to buy books. It turns out the gentleman knew my father and his family many years ago and my Aunt Eva had babysat him as a child. They lived on the same street there. It was nice to meet them and talk about Columbia many years ago where his father was sheriff.
Then when we got to the Lousiana State Cotton Museum in Lake Providence, we met a gentleman who lives in the area who told us his father owned a plantation during the Great Depression. He stated there were about 25 sharecropping families on the plantation and that they had access to the church, school and store there. Mama said they never worked land that had those amenities so her family had to walk many miles to school, church and towns with a store. Young Adam came to meet us (see his picture) as he was very interesed in history and said he wanted to help farming families become self-sufficient so family farms could once again become a vital part of the community. Visitors from Texas also came by to meet us and buy a book. Thanks to all of you. It was nice meeting you all and talking to you.

New Book Events in Louisiana
We finally have a date for the Lincoln Parish Library Book Signing for March 21, at 1:30-3 pm. This is in Ruston, just due south of El Dorado, AR. Thanks Vivian for setting this event up. We look forward to meeting Ruston people and make more new friends.

Great Weekend of Book Events
The Camden Daffodil Festival had great weather and a super turnout on Friday while we were at the Book & Fame Shop to sign books. We sold lots of books and met some new friends. Thanks Lynn for inviting us and thanks to those who came by to see us.
Saturday morning early we headed out to Minden and Shreveport. Minden is a lovely town and the Webster Parish Library was a great place to have a book event. Unfortunately, there was no article in the local newspaper as requested so nobody really knew we were there. We did meet some nice people, workers at the library and a couple of ladies who came in to browse. We sold a book and made a new friend in a local lady who lives in Athens in a home built in 1820. We hope to go back soon and visit her and see her home. Thanks Aunt Sue for coming to join us and for the pictures of the town.
The book signing event in Shreveport was great! Glenda, owner/operator of the Christian Life Tapes and Books was a perfect hostess as were her store employees. They provided a very nice table for us and became friends of ours before the afternoon was over. We sold many books, made new friends and even met a lady from Bastrop who lived there in 1953 and attended the same church we went to, Cherry Ridge Baptist. As we talked more we found out the lady is the mother of one of my classmates at BHS. Her daughter Carol and I graduated in 1965 and have not seen each other since. Carol had been visiting her mother there in Shreveport until Sat. morning when she had returned to Garden Center, KS. I hope we can get in touch with each other soon.
I look forward to the book events next weekend in West Monroe and Lake Providence. See you there.
