CMA State Rally, April 2009, Marble Falls, AR

Gil and I took our motorhome, towing a car, to Marble Falls, AR, April 16-18, for the CMA State Rally and Seasons of Refreshing at the Hub. It was our first time towing the car, and was a great experience for our up-coming trip to Alaska. We had a lovely campground and a wonderful refreshing time at the rally. There were over 200 other CMAers there, many of whom were old friends (no pun intended) and we made many new friends as well. God truly blessed the meetings and His people as they met together for prayer, learning, and fellowship.

Lions Club in Camden

Well this was a very nice speaking engagement today and a nice lunch at the local country club. The Lions Club meets every Wednesday at lunch and they are very involved with community activites in Camden. Thanks, Dr. Dietrich, for the invitation to speak. I met folks I did not know, but was pleased to see a number of people I already knew. Everyone seemed to enjoy what I told them about the book mother and I wrote and about her life as she grew up on the farms. Hon. John Dawson said he milked a cow as a young lad and always gave the cat, waiting nearby, a squirt of fresh milk. Mayor Claybaker said he did not grow up on a farm, and was very glad. Dr. Nunnaly is a local historian and invited me to stop by his home to see his home that was built in 1870 here in Camden and to meet his wife who recently redecorated it. It was good to see Judge Singleton there as we worked together many years when I worked with DHS and the juvenile court system. We have just one more book event this spring, in Monroe, May 9th at the Stubbs Avenue Public Library. Then my husband and I, along with two grandchildren, head north to Alaska for the summer. This blog will then become a way for our friends and family to see where we are along the path as we travel to Alaska and back home. I forgot my camera today and failed to get a picture of the group. Sorry.

Arcadia, Louisiana Book Event

Friday, April 3rd, was a beautiful day for a drive. It took about 1 1/2 hours for me to get to Arcadia, in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. Mama was unable to join me today, so Aunt Sue came along and we had a great time. Thanks, Aunt Sue. Once again we did not have a big crowd, but that was probably due to the fact the local newspaper failed to put an article in the paper about our book event. The library personnel there were very cordial, and made us feel at home. We did sell some books, and on my way home I stopped in Bernice. I had left books there at the Bernice Pharmacy and the nice ladies there had been kind enough to sell them to customers who asked for them. I left more books there today. I'll stay in touch with them as they make more sales for us. Thanks, ladies at the Bernice Pharmacy. Before I got to Bernice I stopped just outside of Dubach to take a picture of the Autrey Dogtrot Log House, the oldest log house in Lincoln Parish. (see picture to the right) I love old houses, but glad I don't live in one like that! I am too spoiled to airconditioning and central heat. Our forefathers would have loved those two conveniences!
